Cyclones have caused some for the worst natural disasters for Australia. Cyclones happen every year in northern Australia. On average 10 cyclones develop over Australian waters each year and six of them reach land. In Australia summer is the cyclone season. In Australia there are three main states/ territories where cyclones hit in Australia they are Queensland, northern territory and Western Australia. These areas of Australia are one of the most cyclone prone areas in the world. The worst cyclone that Australia has ever had was cyclone Tracy in Darwin it happened on Christmas day 1974. Cyclone Tracy destroyed the towns as well as evacuating 32 000 people. Cyclone Tracy killed 65 people and 145 serious injuries and over 500 minor injuries. Cyclone Tracy destroyed 70% of houses and the total damage bill was up to 800 million dollars to fix up all of the damage that it had done.
